Poster concept desgin

As the film is titled HINDSIGHT we thought of a poster concept based around a human eye.

Hindsight means - "recognition of the realities, possibilities, or requirements of a situation, event, decision etc., after its occurrence,". Therefore we chose the eye as the character is overlooking his past. Within the eye images will be shown which reflect his past and present e.g. himself in a depressed state, his pile of letters and his ex-girlfriend.

The tagline of our poster is: Im in so deep im loosing sight.

The poster will look similar to this design. With the bad events in the eye rather than the fire, and a black backgroung rather than the a white as black is associated with badness, death and other negative elements similar to his negative life

The eye shows images of his past alongside his present state, such as: him drinking, on the phone to a person who he owes money, bills, his ex-girlfriend and a knife which represents suicidal thoughts.

The first question asked was ‘What gender are you?’. The reason we asked this question was to see how different genders would react to the base synopsis of our film would appeal to both genders. even though our main character is a male the type of problems he is facing, females can also relate to. The results for this question are shown beneath:

The next question we asked is 'How old are you?' the reason we asked this question was to see whether our questionnaire participants fall into the category of our target audience. Our film is more appealing towards young adults as; our main character is a young adult himself so our target audience would be able to relate with him by his age, it is known that young adults are more prone to stress when going through life experiences such as puberty so they relate to the way he is feeling in the film. Results of age of our participants are shown below:

The next question we asked in our questionnaire was 'Do you watch movies/films?' we asked this simply to find our if our participants watch movies as if they did not their answers would not be too valid and the rest of the questions post this would have no relevance to them. Results from this question is shown below.

We wanted to find out if our questionnaire participants regularly or hardly watch films,so we asked 'How often do you watch movies weekly?', depending on how often they watch films can determine their experience to what they would expect from our film genre and then they can give valid feedback to us to as what we must change or add to our film, which could help us to improve the value our film and make it more typical to the genre. the results from this question are shown below.

 The next question we asked is 'Do watch British films?'. As our film fall under the category of a British social-realist film, we wanted to see if our target audience are used to/enjoy watching British films which would indicate whether they would enjoy watching our film or not. Also those whom watch British films again their answers would be more valid as they would know what expect from a British film under the social-realism category. The results for this question are shown below.

 The next question on our question was 'What is your favorite genre of movies?' we asked this question simply to find our what genre is more popular among our target audience and also to whether our chosen genre is popular with them or not. Results for this question are shown below.
 Results show that the most popular genre for our target audience was comedy. We decided not to alter our original idea to suit this.

For the next question we gave the questionnaire participants a brief synopsis of our film idea. We then asked them if they would watch this film as we had to know if our film comes across as an appealing film towards our target audience, if not we would have to shape and alter our original idea to make it better to suit our target audience and make it more appealing to them. The results from this question is shown below.

For our final question we asked our questionnaire participants to give us active feedback on how to improve our film plot to make it seem a lot more appealing towards them (target audience). With this active feedback we would then alter our original idea to make it better to suit them.

Structure- A man is woken up by a phone call, once he is awake he begins what has become his typical way of life. He gets up and straight away heads to the kitchen then takes out a can of beer and begins binge drinking. Whilst he is binge drinking he see's all his post at the front door, although grimacing at the fact he has post he reluctantly walks over and picks it up without even reading it properly he becomes angry of getting the same post every day about all his debts and about his house getting repossessed. He then has a flash back of how things used to be when he was working and everything was great in his life, then he has a flash back of the time when things took a turn for the worst and he got into a fight and lost his job. Out of anger in remembrance of a bad time in his past he begins punching the walls knocking things over and he happens to break a picture frame which has a picture of him and his girlfriend. He then calms down as he has a flashback and remembers the good times he had with her only then to be infuriated even more and goes in to the kitchen and takes out a knife ready to slit his wrist. As he has a flashback about the time when he went to dinner with her and was about to propose to her but instead he was dumped and she left him. Still contemplating whether or not to slit his wrist he has another more severe flashback of all past events which got him to his current stated (including the events during the day such as the phone call, opening letters, messing up the house and drinking). The knife then drops on the floor indicating he has either become lifeless or dropped the knife and decided not to kill himself.

                                                                 Resources 

Equipment: for our production of our film we may well be using some if not all of the various equipment listed for example.High definition cameras, camera supports such as a tripod, sound-recording equipment such as head phones and a microphone as well as lighting equipment. all in order to make our film in the way and manner we want, to get the right look for our film.




Facilities: three locations will be used for production. The main location for most of the production will be a house during our production other locations such as a cafe and an office will be used. we will also be using a editing suite for editing and an office for frequent updates on our blog.




Stock: we will be mainly using video tape for recording for example a Mini DV or Digi Beta and VHS. for film 35mm and super 16. for audio stock it will be mini-disc and DAT.
visuals: the mood of our film is rather eerie, depressing and overall not so pleasant it ill look dark with low lighting




sound: we will have non-diagetic back ground music to emphasise the mood of our film and to help create gloomy effect. the sound will be parallel to what is actually going on in our film. also during our film we will have an additional non-daigetic sound effect to state as to when a flashback will happen or rather when a flashback is happening.




Editing: we plan to use various editing techniques like that of fades, jump shots and focus pulls and much more. the style and pace of editing will be relatively slow to help create that depressing, dark and gloomy mood. however it will change and speed up during the times of flashbacks within our film that will help the audience to better get a grasp of the difference from present and flashback by having two different styles of editing within the two different parts to our film, one part of our film is the present and the other is the past.




Camera: during the production of our film we will be using many different camera shots and angles as well as sizes and movements. for instance we will use CU's, MCU's, LS's, two-shots, high and low angle shots, birds eye view shots as well as movements like panning and tracking.

                                                        Mise-en-scene

Facial expressions: the facial expressions of our character is mostly that of frowning, sad and angry looking to better create that unpleasant, depression mood.

Body language: the body language of our character will be that of some one who is often drunk and violent as we see him binge drinking and breaking and punching things. throughout most of our film the character will have his head down with haunched shoulders.

Props: for our film wee will be using various props such as a bed mattress, drugs, a sofa, alcoholic drinks such as beer, a fridge, letters, food plates and a glass of wine, desk and stationary as well as a lighter, cigarettes and a mobile phone.

Costumes: we will have various costumes for our character within our film. for instance at times when we are showing him as a depressant  binge drinking and taking drugs our character will be wearing simple clothes such as vest and boxers. during his flashback of him working he will be wearing a suit. he will also be wearing casual clothes like that of a shirt and jeans in another flashback when he is at a restaurant/cafe with his girlfriend.

Location: during our film we will use probably a maximum of three locations , one location will be in a house/flat, another location will be in a restaurant/cafe as well as a location of an office or ICT suite.

Props

• Bed - this is going to be viewed  at the beginning of the film, showing the main character waking up and getting out of bed. Our aim is to use the bed as a way to represent a working class characteristic, as the bed will have no duvet and bed sheets and will be a dirty matress.
• Clothes - We will be using various clothing items that will be scattered around the room, which will be shown as part of the mise en scene. The actual clothing items would be tracksuits and casual jeans and tops. Which would show characteristics of a working class individual
• Drugs - The use of drugs could show the social class and social state of mind of the individual. The main character will actually be using imitation drugs e.g. powder instead of real cocaine.
• Sofa - the main character will be shown sitting down on the sofa, which his body language will show him being lazy and depressed.
• Mobile Phone - The mobile phone will be used as a wake up call for the main character, which we aim to show the lower class characteristics.
• Alcohol Drinks - The character will be seen drinking alcohol as he wakes up. showing the social state of mind the character as not living healthy and drinking alcohol would show the depressing state of the individual.
• Fridge - This would be used as the character takes out the alcohol drink. This can show the stereotypical image of a working class individual as resorting to the fridge to take out their meals, seeing as fast food meals is seen to be a working class individual.
• Lighter - this will be used to light up a cigarette as cigarettes are seen to be a resort of ignoring depression.
• Desk and stationary - This will be shown as a flashback which the main character is going through, where he was a middle class individual maintaining a stable career.
• Food/Plates/Wine - This will be seen during a flashback where the main character is seen to be in a restaurant or cafe with his lover having dinner, which shows the romance of the film.

• Letters - Letters will be shown picked up by the character, the leeters will be from the local council stating that his house is going to be taken away due to the failure of paying his bills. The reason why we have decided this prop ia ao that it shows the financial state of the character of being broke. 

Clothes

• Vest and boxers - The main character will first be seen to the audience wearing a vest and boxers which we aim to show that the character is portrayed as a working individual.
• Suit - As the character goes through a flashback in the past where he was working in the office, he'll be wearing a suit, the reason being this is that it would show that the character had a stable career. 
• Casual Clothes - this will show the characters persona out of his career and in his casual days, he would be seen wearing casual clothes on the scene where he is at a restaurant/ cafe with his girlfriend.
• Dress/ casual clothes - the main characters girlfriend would be seen wearing this when they are at the restaurant/ cafe. the colour would preferably be red, as it shows danger and love at the same time.
• Tracksuit/Hoody - This will be worn by the main character whilst he has a flashbkack of his past where he was a violent youth. Which would relate to social issues where wearing hooddies is seen to be viewed as a working class individual and a violent aggresive youth.

SYNOPSIS

TARGET AUDIENCE

The film is mainly targeted towards young adults (age 16-28) as they are more likely to make wrong decisions with money handling that can disorientate their lives. However the film can appeal for any person of any age as these problems can strike practically anyone.
The main social class this can appeal to is the working class and underclass. It more appeals to the working class because this social band includes:

.Students
.Unemployed
.Young Parents

These group of people are most likely to be able to relate with the strugggle which the main characeter faces. Mainly the unemployed as the main character is unemployed and students as they generally have small sources of income
In regards to those in the working class, they earn lower wages so would understand the difficulty of maintaining life with low income.


PURPOSE

To entertain its audience. The sad narrative will spark different emotional states within the audience and they may become attached with the main character. Reason being is that, within the five minutes of the film you will see the clinical points in his life where he falls from a comfortable position.

It is also to show people that even one wrong desicion can change your life. By using a fictional character and showing his bad state it may encourage people to take more care with money, relationships and general living. If the unemployed watch this it may encourage them to better their lives and not jump to critical desicions similar to what the main character does.

As it is a short movie it wouldn't be marketable via multi-lex cinemas, dvd/blu-rays etc. Therefore instead of making the film with the intentions of earning an income the more sensible option would be to use it for educational purposes. It could be used in colleges to show students what drug use, and other small mistakes can create a massive change in a persons life.
It could also be viewed in independent art houses such as BFI South Bank, and screened in various short film festivals such as Wood Green International Short Film Festival & London Film Festival

5star Productions is back with a new film called...Hindsight. The three original members, Raphael, Ricardo and Malachi are still apart of the production crew however there is now a new member Hussain. All four members attend Sir George Monoux College Studying Media as an A level continuing from AS and other subjects.
Hindsight is a film where it shows depressing moments of an individuals life. whom goes through flasbacks of his past. Which eventually leads to....
